Fence permits are required for all new and replacement fences in the City of Cannon Falls.
Fences that are made of plastic, PVC or chain link may be located ON the property line. Wooden fences and/or fences that require maintenance must be located at least 2 FEET INSIDE the property line of the property erecting the fence. It is recommended that the property owner establish property lines by locating property pins or contacting a professional surveyor. The City of Cannon Falls does NOT mark property lines.
*It is the owner's responsibility to ensure that the fence is placed within the property boundary. If there is a discrepancy, it is the owner's responsibility to conduct a land survey to identify the property boundaries.
Application Requirements
- Drawing of proposed fence location on a survey of site plan must indicate:
- All lot dimensions
- Location of dwelling unit and/or other structures
- Street and alley locations
- Location and height/length of fence segments
- Corner lots must be indicated
- Permit Fee - $35.00
